Kukuwu The train dropped us off in a town called Donghae - we looked in the travel-guide and there didn't seem to be anything exceptional to see there but we were close to a seaside town called Samcheok and we thought that if we were near the beach the weather had to be good. 동해라 불리는 마을에 도착해 열차에서 내렸어. 우리는 여행 안내원을 수소문 했지만, 그곳 경치를 바라보는 것 이외에 아무 것도 할 것이 없더라. 그러나 삼척이라 불리는 해변가 마을과 가까운 위치였는데, 만일 삼척의 해변가로 가면 날씨가 틀림없이 좋을 것이라 생각했지. Samcheok boasted the usual seaside follies as well as some caves and, wait for it...... a Penis Park. So our route was decided. november01 I'm South Korean by birth, but is now a citizen of US. Wow! It's really a small world. Did you by any chance get the train number? I've been in South Korea both on business and for pleasure and been there once. So I'm able to remember Donghae station. On September 4, 2008, I remember I got off a train at Mokpo Station to take a trip down south to the beach. With crystal-clear waters, the archipelago forms an ecosystem that hosts an exceptional marine community. 나는 태생은 한국인이지만 현재 미국 시민이야. 와!! 정말 세상 좁네. 너 혹시 열차번호 기억해? 나도 한국에 업무와 여행을 위해 다녀온 적이 있고 남근공원에도 한 번 가봤거든. 그래서 동해역을 기억할 수 있어. 또한 나는 2008년 9월 4일 남해안을 여행하기 위하여 목포역에 내렸던 것 역시 기억해. 수정처럼 맑은 바다 가운데 있는 그 다도해는 특이한 해양 생태계를 형성하고 있지. We went to a beautiful island named Shinan by ship. We had a pleasant cabin on the cruise ship though the package on the ship was fetching away and being seasick I felt like vomitting. We ate a whole packet of biscuits drinking a six pack of beer. By the by, we were stranded on the island. The heavy thunderstorm precluded our going to the beach. We all fell dumb as if with one accord. That precluded us from returning to land. We were just like reclusives. 우리는 '신안'이라는 아름다운 섬에 배를 타고 놀러가기도 했지. 비록 배안의 소포물들이 흔들렸고 난 배멀미 때문에 토할 것 같은 기분이 들기는 했지만 우리는 편안한 객실에 있었어. 우리는 맥주캔 여섯 개를 마시면서 과자 한 봉지를 다 먹었어. 그런데 그 섬에 갇히기도 했어. 심한 폭우 때문에 해변에 가지 못했거든. 우리 모두는 이구동성인 것처럼 침묵했었지. 그 때문에 우리는 내륙으로 돌아갈 수 없었지. 우리가 마치 은둔자들처럼 느껴졌어. Oh, at the end of my holidays, I missed a train for Seoul by half a minute because the weather turned nasty in a minute. Though the TV was updating a new story on the bad storm, I can't receive updated news because the radio of my rental car broke down-the cost of upkeep was tremendous. So I couldn't catch a train which was due in Seoul at 5:30 pm. It was exasperating to miss the train by half a minute. According to the report, trains were delayed due to the heavy downpours. Power outages were also reported. In any event, everything was a good memory. 아참, 휴가가 끝날 무렵 날씨가 순식간에 화난 듯 변해버려서 30초 차이로 서울행 기차를 놓쳤던 적도 있었지. 비록 텔레비젼에선 악천후에 대한 소식을 계속 업데이트하고 있었지만 난 최신 정보를 얻지 못했거든. 왜냐하면 내 렌터카 라디오가 고장(유지비 엄청 깨지더라)났거든. 그래서 오후 5:30분에 서울에 도착할 열차를 제 시간에 기차를 탈 수 없었던거야. 30초로 기차를 놓치다니 약오르더군. 보도에 따르면 폭우로 인해 대중 교통이 마비되고 기차가 지연되는 등 곳곳에서 많은 시민들이 큰 불편을 겪었다고 하더군. 또 정전도 됐었다고 했지. 어쨌든 모든 것이 좋은 추억이야.

november01 @ scalp00100... Train fares are based on travel time and distance. So I can't explain them across the board. Korea Railroad don't offer lower prices even during the off season. However KR gives special rates to children under age 5, and passengers don't have to pay a premium for a seat by a window unlike airplane. The train room was full to capacity every weekend so I was out of breath whenever I got on the train. However Don't worry yourself about such a trifle. If you are young and prefer traveling, you can accommodate yourself easily to new situations. In addition, Korean government outlawed smoking in all of the cars on the train. I saw the 2 smokers were fined $10 each for breach of the peace. And riders had better embark early because Koreans don't have a long wait. I prefer traveling by rail to traveling by air, sea, road.
